A warm welcome to the many newly registered participants. ;-) I will release a set of new work units today so that you guys get an idea about what computing for RNA World feels like. As always, we will be doing useful stuff, so these are no dummy WUs or so. ;-)
    Michael.

      hi there :)

      Got a question.
Can we expect later a longer WU ?

      And another thing :)
Could you change the link to the forum ? this one on the bottom of the page direct us to http://www.rechenkraft.net/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=74 :)
The same is with the one at the main page.

Yes, there will be longer WU's later, but we do not want to scare the new participants with WU's with runtimes of 80 h and more and no checkpoints.

The link is correct and should direct there, because RNA World does not really want to use the BOINC integrated forum.

But why should we have to register on another (competing) team's forum to provide input into the project?

The standard BOINC-provided forums are fully integrated with the project and users accounts, so no separate registration is required.

            There are several reasons.
            1. the project is run by Rechenkraft.net e.V. therefore it is fitting to use that forum (like with yoyo@home)
            2. that forum has moderators already to monitor and reply to responces
            3. if the project goes down, the forum is still there

@Angus: I think you asked the same question before and got your answer already.

The system has proven it's viability with yoyo@home since the beginning of 2008, therefore it is not likely to change anytime soon.

None of those reasons are valid, and the hassle and security issues of having to separately register for forums on another team's network far outweighs any of them also.

Moderators can be assigned here as well, and the newest BOINC server code keeps the news section alive even if the database is down.

RKN needs to keep it's team identity separate from the project identity.

The forum of RNA World is separated from the RNA World project server. In addition, we can (and do) provide fora for multiple languages. And that's why it will stay as it is: RNA World will use the forum space on RKN and for time reasons (I have a job, too), I will not be able check the postings here regularly.

Please note: This is a COMMENT SECTION associated with the news announcements which we post on the RNA World front page. Please do not misuse that as a discussion forum but instead use the fora linked to on the relevant RNA World page.

                Michael.

P.S.: RKN operates this project, so how can we separate team identity from project identity?
